The early pregnancy scan (2D) from week five picks up the heartbeat, checks for twins and dates the pregnancy. The growth and gender scan (2D) from week 16 checks the baby's size and estimated due date. The detailed screening scan (2D with report) looks at the baby's structures more closely.
4D and 5D scans are clearest around weeks 28 to 33, when your baby's face and movements can be seen in real time. Many parents choose it as their first keepsake of their child.
